Introduction to "Online Dating" - Critical Thinking

As I was looking at my writing throughout the semester I was rather amazed how most of my work was rather opinionated in nature. When our class’s final paper assignment came along I have to admit I was rather upset. It was a paper that its soul purpose was to analyze and not argue. For me, to fathom that requirement was almost impossible. I had to challenge my writing abilities and my patience. Prior to the final paper, our class was learning about traditions and their effects on our society. The objective of the paper was to take a piece of “pop culture” and analyze how it affects an aspect of tradition. I looked at the assumption that traditions are long standing and static practices. I then compared the assumption to the Internet dating craze that is taking over America. I discussed the positive and negative effects. This piece was significant in that I was not able to voice an opinion, but simply state information and ideas. I felt that this paper helped be grow as a writer and analytical thinker. I’m actually rather pleased in the outcome. Though it may not be the most outstanding paper I have ever written, it clearly felt like an accomplishment. I had to step out of my comfort zone and produce something worth reading. To me it’s worth more than something to read, it’s something to showcase!
